Apparently you cant read. I never said I dont want to pay. In fact I said numerous times that I am willing to pay, just dont want the demerits. If I can easily fight the ticket because of the cops mistake, I will save the $200 bucks in my pocket. I know I did something wrong and I am willing to pay if the cop did his part right. I am not going to thank him/her for being a dick about my car being lowered as it had nothing to do with my infraction and was unnecessary.

I came here looking for advice and some answers, not a life lesson. Grow up and stop acting as if you're never done any wrong

I know. I'm extra careful around that mark and make sure i'm never over 40 past the limit. Last thing I need is being stuck in butt-f*ck nowhere for 3 days with my car at the impound!

Good to know. I'm definitely going to be calling cranbrook to see if I can get the ticket tossed, but if not no biggie. I go to BC too often to be worried about warrants and impounds and sh!t, so the ticket will definitely be getting paid if needed. Like Dan said, $171 isnt alot for the peace of mind. Doesnt hurt to at least call and find out. Might try what you suggested George and mail it back to them with an explanation.

Pat, I just went through this last fall...right outside Cranbrook by Wasa...IIRC on the back of the ticket, there should be a section to dispute, explain why, and mail the ticket back to them...if you have a valid dispute, they will either throw the ticket out or set a court date. If they set a court date, you should be able to go online and just pay the ticket before the court date and that would be the end of it. I'd send it in with your explanation...couldn't hurt.

That's a pretty low fine for that speed, i'd just pay it. I got clocked at 125 km/h in our wonderful Banff national park and it was $250.

i would pay. those cops are dicks in BC. such a hard on for perceived street racers. you will get raped if they pull you over there again lol and $171 is pretty cheap for piece of mind.

Not gonna bother getting a lawyer as it'll probably be more hassle and money than just paying the ticket. Ticket was issued just outside of cranbrook. Cop was coming up the hill, I just finished passing a bunch of cars and a semi so he claims he clocked me at 133. Cop was being quite a dick about it too as he was talking about impounding my car for being too low and not roadworthy since I didnt have an inspection report handy to prove its road worthy. Stupid Farva.

Either way, i'll call into Cranbrook and see if they will toss the ticket since it has not speed on it and if not i'll just pay it. Like i said, I just dont want the demerits. Ticket was only $196 and if I pay within 15 days its $25 less. Not worth driving down to fight it or getting traffic lawyers involved.

ugh. i've gotten many tickets in BC simply because they don't understand that a car who does 110km/hr in alberta, can't in BC. i haven't had demerits show up. you do have to fight it in the town that issued it. ie: ticket on rogers pass was to be fought, or paid in revelstoke. they will send it to collections though. which sucks for obvious reasons.

*edit, if they see you are obviously speeding but don't record it, they can still fine you for driving at an excessive speed. cops are well trained to tell if you are going 20 over lol

*edit2, i don't think they can issue an arrest warrant for a speeding ticket but they will most likely impound your car thus making you pay more than the original ticket.

i got a ticket in BC like 8 years ago in shithold merrit doing like 130/100.. anyways long story.
no demerits as its out of province
you don't have to pay the fine.. that being said if you don't pay it they put out an arrest warrant so if your back in BC and get pulled over again, etc have fun dealing with that mess
fighting it you would have to be in BC i'm pretty sure

i would call the BC ticket whatever dealy and say here is my ticket number, etc there is no speed written on this. or did he write down.. clocked @ XXX? if so then see below

if there is no speed but just checked speeding IMO that ticket is incorrectly filled in and is voided

end of the day just pay it online and move on

PS.. my bro got pulled over 4 years on on john L. doing like 130/80 and the cop/tickets at the time for the city didnt have printed on CALGARY,AB so the copy just wrote JL BLVD NW but no city.. my bro went to pay it and the girl at the counter tore it up saying the idiot didn't fill it out properly

Talk to a lawyer, but as far as in concerned, if there's no speed written on the ticket and no proof of the speed you were going, there's no proof that warrants a ticket. They can't really issue a ticket and have it stick without evidence

Need advice on traffic law violations and such

So without going into details, I met one of BC's finest supertroopers on my way back from Leavenworth. I've never had a ticket from a different province so i'm unsure on some of the laws and concequences. Hoping someone can shed some light on this.

    A) Do I still get demerits even though I have an Alberta Drivers License
    B) Can I fight the ticket here or do I have to go to BC?
    C) Ticket was for speeding but he didnt write down the speed he clocked me at on the ticket. Would this be enough to get it scrapped?

Honestly its not really worth my time to fight the ticket if I need to go back to BC to do it, I just dont want the demerits sitting on my license.

Let me know if you've ever gotten a ticket in BC and what you had to do. I talked to a friend who said he got one a few years ago and he didnt bother even paying it because it doesnt show up on the Alberta registry when you go to renew your registration. Apparently if its over $500 they will issue a warrant for your arrest in BC lol. Not sure how much if any of that is true!
