  • Radar Detectors

I picked up a detector today, the highway between bearspaw and Cochrane is crazy with traps it seems and being fairly new to the city it's nice to get a heads up on red light and speed cameras.

To you guys that use one, did you hardware it in?

If that's the route you recommend what shop would you send me too?

I tried tunerworks a couple of times today, I knew where it was and they had the unit I wanted but of course I couldn't get a return phone call or talk to anyone but the receptionist who just wanted to send me to various voicemails...

    Thanks!

    Re: Radar Detectors

I didn't hardwire mine in. I do recommend though being on top of things and hiding it in your glove box if you get pulled over. The police tend to be very grumpy with you if they see one of those.

Mobile Solutions Calgary is definitely a good place to go if Tunerworks doesn't work out

I thought they are legal here in AB and BC? For what it cost I better not get pulled over lol

Hardwired Bell radar detector flush mounted in a discrete spot on the dash, along with front and rear jammers. This is in the 348.
They are legal in AB and most western provinces, I have a link bookmarked outlining laws of most provinces.

Never been pulled over.....and hope to keep it that way

My s4 has a hardwired passport escort 9500ci which has front and rear laser shifters and the install wasn't to hard as i recall. The non shifter types i would recommend a hardwire. I did this to my old jetta with a 9500xi passport escort and the look is much better. Plus you can have it higher on your windshield for proper detection. Having it down lower to the dash minimizes the effective protection. and having it high up with the cord can be a distraction so the hard wire route is a strong recommend. And as nismo said Shifters and detectors are not illegal in Alberta. Jammers are however. Shifters simply deflect the signal and give the police a bad read so it returns as a error.(YES i have tested it ( ) If you want to do this DIY style i would gladly lend a hand.

Just because it's legal doesn't make mean you won't get hit with a ticket.

I've known a couple of people with detectors and when the police noticed them on the dash, they gave tickets for some things which you wouldn't ever get a ticket for, unless they are being jerks.

Thanks ! You can fight the ticket though. But if you have tint usually they notice the tint more haaahha in bc I'm pretty sure it is illegal though but if you do a clean install they usually don't notice. And if you have shifters like me they won't notice at all if it's clean install.
