  • Driving Roads in Edmonton Region

I noticed there was a thread regarding the Calgary area, so I thought I would make one for the YEG folk.

What are your favorite driving roads around Edmonton.

I know groat is a popular choice, but I've seen a few accidents on that road.

My favorite is TWP 564A on the North of Strathcona County. Very little traffic, no houses and the speed limit is high at 80km/h.

There's dips, sharp corners, banking, and sweepers. Doing 80km/h its 4 minutes of fun.

I took a video I will post up when I get home to WiFi.

Hate on Groat all you want. But the penalties for screwing up are concrete barricades in the inside and rock walls on the outside, with no shoulder to bail out. Bad pavement, dirt and gravel off line, blind apexes, etc. factor into a challenging bit of road best approached with respect. It takes some finesse to wring out Groat at 120+ from the bottom of the hill (northbound) to the end of the twisty bit.

Good thread, I'll have to think of some of mine. Only one that comes to mind off hand is the back way to Scotford, aka River Road in Ft. Saskatchewan.

Well they did repave all of Groat so it should be a lot less sketchy now.

I'm not hating on Grout, Im not a big fan where its in the middle of the city on a congested route.
