Just wondering what some of your opinions are on radar detectors, and if they actually work or just give you a false sense of security?

      Re: Radar detectors...

haha, i think we've had this conversation before. I'm sure a search will bring it up. Valentine is good, as are the top end Beltronics and Escort (which i think are under the same company now). In the end, they are not great in the city. Other than photo radar, radar guns are not used in Calgary. Detectors will beep for photo radar, but often not soon enough. CPS uses laser. Detectors will pick up laser, but if the cop is using a tripod and keeps the beam away from the window, it probably wont be picked up, and they get a reading so damn fast with laser, it probably wont help anyways unless you catch a reflected signal off a car in front of you. I find if they shot freehand, the shaky laser is easier to pick up. I have definitely picked up laser early enough to be useful, but I have passed laser guns that have not triggered the detector. Radar will always trip the detector. The output from a radar gun covers a huge area.

On the highway where radar is more common, they are friggin great.

But only speeders need them, and people here don't do that .

V1 def. seems to be listed as numero uno in testing, but I got the escort 8500 (good deal) and it has certainly saved my ass several times over the last year or so paying for itself over and over again. I think some the other upper class radars asides from the V1 do a good job aswell.

yes they do. They wont save you if you are going waaaaay too fast, cause the cop will know something is up. But at least he won't be able to get a speed reading when doing it. Sometime this is a good thing, sometimes its not. Cause when they estimate your speed 130kmh becomes 150-160 very easily.

                      Re: Radar detectors...

If your looking for a laser jammer the blinder M-25 or M-45 is the way to go.
M-25 has 2 laser transceivers (laser blockers) for the front, the 45 has 4 transceivers for 360 degree protection or front protection for large SUV and trucks.

The 7 years Tunerworks has been selling and installing these products only 2 people have come back with tickets, and it wa sbecause their transceivers were covered with a think layer of mud, rendering them useless until they were washed.

Dont more transceivers make it more easy to find the system?

                        Are they illegal?

Yep, get a laser jammer and a good radar detector. All will be well.

i think laser jammers are fine, but get a radar jammer going and you'll probably end up in jail.

                              Correct

The blinder units are also just little flat black boxes so the can be hidden well in grills and in the front bumper so they are not easy to notice.
