Exact same issues before. It was ign switch. Try that first.

Also check the load reduction relay (X relay) Sometimes that could be an issue.

thats what i figured but just seamed odd that all that seamingly unrelated stuff would stop working too.

Well, with the ignition off, wipers, headlights, etc don't work. They are on the ingintion circuit and not the 'always on' circuit so it makes sense to me.

Had a similar problem with my mk3 vr6, except for the ingition thing. Turned out to be fuses that had worked their way out. Driving for three weeks on Grande Prairie roads with stiff suspension and low profile tires will do that. lol

so on my 97 jetta GLX VR6 i am having a messed up problem, car starts and all things run fine.... but randomly the headlights will turn off (not interior) the heater fan stops working the wipers don't work and the e-brake light comes on.
then if you just play with the key it sounds like you trip a relay somewhere and it all works again until another 5 minutes.

any ideas???
