Alright thanks guys. That was my guess also and what i was hoping it was. I will have to wait untill my car is not a giant ice block.

Happened to me, it was a crack in the exhaust. Get it on a hoist and have a look, or on some jacks and crawl under.

Could be the slip joint behind the cat which is kinda right under the shifter, or your manifold bolts to the down pipe came loose

Yeah that could be it. I have been hearing this sqeeky ratteling for the last week or 2 under my car. Maybe finally a bit of my exhaust broke or cracked.

your mid muffler/resonator may have cracked or you have an exhaust leak possibly.

So all of a sudden my GTI seems to be alot louder. Its heard best from in the cabin. It sounds like its coming around the stick shift area. Its a super deep rumbeling noice when i first set off from a light untill about 3,500 rpm. Almost sounds like i have put aftermartket exhaust on it. The thing is it cant really be heard from the out side. Could it just be an exhaust leak or something? Or maybe its something completly differnt? If any one has an idea of what could cause this that would be great. Probably will take it to george if i cant figure it out.

Its a 2002 GTI 1.8T
