  • Random Turn Signal

So basically i'll be driving around in my mkIV jetta 2.slow and my car will randomly make the turn signal clicking sound. After I have my turn signal actually on and make a turn, and it does the automatic turn off, the clicker just keeps clicking, and not just at the same pace. Sometimes its normal pace, sometimes it goes double time and likes to swap between the two.

I have already tried replacing the relay(hazard button), but that didnt do anything.

    Anyone know whats going on?

    Re: Random Turn Signal

there was a post on this not long ago, the problem is a common one something to do with thin wires in the stem breaking or shorting etc. see if you can find the last post with a search.

I'd search vortex. I know alot of ppl have had this problem.
There was a recall on the hazard switch.

anyway, heres a thread about it:

        Re: Random Turn Signal

        Happened to me once.

It can be the hazard switch or it can be caused by excessive dust at the base of your stalk.

Mine was related to excessive dust.

yeah, there is a hazard switch recall from a while back, but its more likely the excessive dust. Get a can of electical cleaner and spray it all over at the base of the turn signal stalk. Thats the cheapest place to start, and it has fixed the problem for quite a few people. Mine started clicking last winter. I hit it with cleaner, and it has been fine since.

                        Re: Random Turn Signal

Yah what people figure happens is that the turn signal switch grease gets copper dust in it that wears from the switch. It become just conductive enough to partially engage the relay. You can take it apart and clean it instead of replacing.

My GTI did this when i bought it. I gave this method a try and 7 months later it still has not done it once.

                            Re: Random Turn Signal

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago or so.
This is like the one problem that magically fixed itself.
I was told to replace the stalk, so it was booked in but like a week before it went it it stopped and hasnt happened since.
