AFS Inoperative

WTF! Brand new 2009 Tiguan Highline with 8000km on it presented this error on the MFD this morning. Googled it and says something about the bi-xenon headlights or the turning assist lamps. Everything checks out though. I was just in at SCFC for the first service two weeks ago. No problems then.

sit in the car with the key on. turn on the lights. operate the blinker. now turn the steering wheel to the side you are blinking. a side light should light up and brighten the area. now check the other side. if one doesn't light up, you have a burnt out bulb.

AFS faults usually happen when a fault with the cornering motor/s happen and or a cornering bulb goes faulty. I'd say call SCFC and make an appointment. I'll look after it for ya.

Yep, sets a fault and the AFS becomes inop.

looks like the motors are good on the headlights. They do their dance on startup. The halogen lamp on the drivers side that lights up on low speed was the culprit.

How does a VW with only 8000km burn out light bulbs? Doesn't look like a simple job replacing the bulb like in my MK4 Jetta.

8,000km? I've seen a bunk drive shaft crater at 10km. Yes, ten. If it's mechanical, it will break. It's just a matter of time.

It is a tiny filament that gets hot in a moving vehicle, no surprise. Unless it was the HID bulb in which case it is a gas glass container in a moving vehicle.

generally, when you plot mean time to failure for a product, its either right away that it fails, or way down the road. Early stuff is manufacturing defect, down the road is wear, and then with any luck, you have the nice broken in period in between where nothing major happens... lol

Just because it's new, doesnt mean it's. And that's with all makes and models. If some lacky touched it during assy, it could go, dust, moisture, ect. So many factors like you are all mentioning above.
Whats most important here is that it's under warranty, so no cost, just the hassle of getting in to fix it.

Had a c-15 (Semi truck engine) drop a valve at 10 km

Saw Neil's Tig and we replaced a cornering bulb. Fixed!
