Haldex is a different system than a center torsen diff.

Most audis use torsen with the expception of a3's and tt's which use pretty much the same haldex system as an R32

Regarding the ESP, is it pretty much the same for the years it has been used in VW's, or have there been significant improvements? I'm sure it's been tweaked here and there, just curious if you were comparing a 2001's ESP to a 2010's ESP, if its the same thing, or if newer systems have worked out some of the kinks that guys here don't like.

Should be a fun set up. From what i've heard, Quattro is better than Haldex, however i've never driven Quattro, and really have absolutely NO COMPLAINTS about Haldex. Winters are quite fun!!!
I thought Haldex made both Quattro and 4motion?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haldex_Traction

The Haldex LSC has been used in 4WD models of Volkswagen by the name "4motion", and Audi cars under the name of "quattro". The same labels have also been applied to Torsen-based, permanent full-time 4WD systems from both Volkswagen and Audi, which has led to confusion, and some heated debate as to the relative merits of each system. This is due to confusion over nomenclature; based on the fact that the original Audi Quattro coupé did use a torque-sensing centre differential (not Torsen, however), many fans believe that "quattro" refers to said type of 4WD system, not realising that it is simply a trademark. (It is interesting to note that "quattro" is also used on the Audi Q7 SUV, which uses neither Torsen ( maybe this tip is not true: check here [9] ) nor Haldex; instead, it uses a BorgWarner system).

I think this has to be my biggest problem with the VW system (at least on the FWD cars). It is extremely unpredictable. I am all for TC but only when its done right. As I seem to state every year there just seems to be something not quite right with the VW system, and it makes the car handle horribly IMO opinion.

I actually did a test last year with my jetta on a straight road. From a roll I pinned it with the TC off and hands off the wheel, car stayed relatively straight, pulled slightly to one side and wheels spun of course. Then did the same thing with the TC on and it started pulling the car from side to side trying to correct for the wheels spinning, really not a very effect system IMO.
