  • So are you a car guy/girl... or aren't you?

So this morning, as I was firing up the .:R... my wife says to me "Why do you do that?"
I responded in kind... "Why do I do what?"

She then went on to inform me that I make sure that the driver's door is either still open or that the driver's window is at least partially rolled down before firing up the car. Apparently (according to her) most "normal" people don't do that. Of course, I called BS and said that most "normal" people don't do that because they aren't "car guys/girls". Enjoying the sweet sounds of your prized piece of machinery burbling and warbling just off idle has got to be at least one sign that you treat your car as something more than just an appliance that takes you from Point A to Point B. Seriously now. Any real, self-respecting car guy/girl would do this some of the time if not all the time. ...right?!

So it is with this that I ask you: Are you a car guy/girl... or aren't you?!

Can't say I myself do this all the time in my own car...its only a 2.0... but whenever we drive the .:R around we always have a window/sunroof or door open when the car starts. I dont think its weird but it is kinda funny she mentioned that to you. You probably dont even notice that you do that. We do it and it seems normal to us. I think it all depends on the type of car you drive too.

Driving along retaining walls or rock faces is good times with windows down too. Everything echos back to you.

Haha, I never realized it until now, but I always start the car before closing the door.
Windows down when next to barriers and walls too.

                    You guys are so weird.

... I've tried fanangling a better listen by pressing the gas pedal with my hockey stick, just to hear the exhaust note closer to the rear of the car.

I generally do not listen too much on start up, but granted a 2.0T is not as nice sounding as a 3.2, I do enjoy a nice rip along a wall or tunnel though, and starting the R8 is a lot of fun, especially when it is cold or has been sitting for a while

Hahahahahaha. I have the perfect mental image of this. Video tape? No. Get a buddy to press gas? No, it isn't his car. Like a true canadian, what sort of 5-6ft stick do I have? Hockey stick. Perfect solution.

I do it in my bus, but that is a more of a safety concern. I don't for sure trust, it isn't going to gas me. But with its header and carb's it has a pretty mean snarl for a 1.7l.
