  • Auto-locking feature driving me crazy!!

    Hey All,

Was just wondering if someone could help me out with this one.

Is there a simple way to turn off the auto-locking feature of the trunk hatch on the MKIV GTi? The reason I ask is because I often take stuff out of my hatch (ie. window scraper, towel/shammy for car wash, etc., etc.)... however, when I go to return to the hatch, the thing has already re-locked itself. Currently, I have resorted to not closing the hatch all the way. Is there an easy way to turn this thing off?

    Thanks in advance...

I dont know for sure, but I would assume that the auto-lock feature could be disabled with a VAG-COM.

Can someone confirm or deny this? Is there any other way?

      Cheers...

The Vag Com cant do this as far as I know. A couple of people in the TDi club were working on some additional circuits to try to get around this feature but I lost track of the thread a while ago. I am sure someone has managed by now.

I think what Simon is trying to say is that there is probably not a really easy way then.

Yeah... I just did an exhaustive Vortex search and basically came up with the fact that this cannot be changed easily, even by Volkswagen. Why would Volkswagen do this anyways? When I leave my car for the night, or in the parking lot, I will lock it myself. So why when I open up the hatch 3 times in the parking lot does Volkswagen think it has to lock every time! The driver/passenger doors don't lock every time you close them, so why does the hatch have to? Personally, I think the the hatch should act identically to the door locks (ie. Locking at 20km/hr I believe and staying unlocked until you want to lock them with the key fob or key.) Anyone?

            Sincerely,
Guy who can't believe this thing is undefeatable.

I totally agree with you, and if I drove a GTI Id probably get pretty frustrated by that. But I drive a Jetta, so it doesn't affect me.

                Hey,

This is kinda off topic but...

                http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1167036

It lets you unlock the hatch at the same time as all the other doors. I hate how the hatch lock works.
                huh?
