How much of a change in sound did you notice with the bottom cut out?
I have been looking at the evoms for awhile but for the price it hardly seems worth it.
I just read through this one and saw your post http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...urp-..../page3
Sound is night and day, I would do the mod 100 times over again just for that noise! As Jeremy clarkson would say "It sounds like the devils dyson sucking up souls!"
Sounds like a 12v Vr6 with a good intake, just an amazing noise. Im trying to decide if I like it better flapper open or not. With open you get both noises and they are great, but with flapper closed you really hear the intake, I love it!

Closest thing i can find to the sound

Very old school imo, but it works. To help with cooler air coming in from outside I am thinking of putting in some ducting down the road from the grille up to the snorkel. Price wise though its hard to beat.

    - Mkiv DSG lower air box and snorkel. - http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/144856/980096.aspx
    - An aftermarket cold air intake- evoms, etc.
    - larryccf lower bumper snorkel to airbox- Best bet...but no one makes one anymore.

I'm interested in the DSG airbox and how much of a difference it would make.

well i did this today after work but i kept the hole for the intake snorkel so i can remove that later as well.

needless to say......WOW! i didnt feel a big increase in power (maybe a small increase) but the sound is amazing! sounds like a 12 V vr6 with an intake, now THIS is what an R is supposed to sound like! found there was better throttle response as well. cant wait to go UM tune too add to this!

took advantage of a georgous day after work ( dont worry, i took er for wash after!)

I was just looking at the air box mod a couple weeks ago. I think I'm just going to remove the partition inside the intake but keep the "flapper" intact.

just took the .:R to south centre for the free 30 point inspection for out of warranty VW's! Everything looked good and it was nice to get underneath the car when it was on the lift and see all the scraping i have been doing haha. only thing i need to take car of is a brake fluid flush, other than that everything else looks good!
