  • Vr6 ticking

    Hello everybody,
Wondering if someone can help me resolve this issue. My 98 golf gti has the vr6 in it, and have noticed a ticking, I just bought the car in Vancouver. I know they tick a little, but now it's all the way thru the rpm range. Chains and guides and tensioners were all done recently, water pump, clutch because it was apart anyways. Can someone give pointers to help this get eliminated!! I'm thinking a bad lifter..

does your tick sound more like marbles in a tin can at around 1800-2000rpm?
if so thats likely chains, if its constant throughout the rpm range could be lifter related.

Look for leaks, if there isn't sufficient oil pressure the chain won't have enough tension and will tick.

Change the oil if you have any second thoughts about what was put in it. Secondly, make sure the oil deflector on the cams are placed properly and that pieces haven't broken off. Happened to a friend of mine, the deflector was moving around and getting chewed up by the cam. Lastly oil pressure. If the cams aren't getting sufficient oil, it'll tick all day.
