Anyone else having this issue? Seem's like when its either fairly cold, or we get a decent dump of snow, I guess since the front of my car likes to plow the roads and scoop snow up above the control arms (guessing?), seem's like they are freezing? I've noticed a few times (in the early morning after a huge snowfall) that when I go about 60km/h or higher, I get a viscous steering wheel shake, gets worse the faster I go. Then usually (or at least the last 2 times) once it warms up, it disappears? Is this just the bushings freezing up? or... Slightly confused... Need some guru input.

Probably snow built up in the wheels. I had a bad shake this am because I did some donuts yesterday in deep snow and the wheels were packed.
I figured it had all melted but it hadn't and thus my shimmy-rific commute today.John

After sliding around in the passat i get snow buildup in the wheels and it shakes like mad. Heat from the brakes can melt it just enough to ice up and stay.Comment

Genius. Didn't even think about snow build up in the wheels (had a long, amazing weekend in San Francisco - from what I can remember...) My mind is still slightly foggy, Thanks guys.Comment

ya what bagged said the ice melts from the brakes heat and melts to the tires then when you stop it freezes, try and pull over and break it off it should be warm if you drive for a little then do it but driving like that can damage the vehicle at certain speeds.-Terry
