  • DIY: Polish your wheelz under 20 hours for 50$

    Got spare time?
    Want shiney wheels?
Want only part of the wheels to be polished?
Here's a simple tutorial I came up with.

Must have: PATIENCE, if you don't sand enough your wheels will not be shiney enough. If you sanded for 1-2 hours in total from 400 to 2000, i can gurantee that your wheels will look like a mirror.

Aluminum wheel polish at the easiest level.
    Materials:
1 pair of kitchen rubber gloves, seriously, or your skin will peel after wet sanding.
    An orbit sander.
8x 80 grit orbit sander sand paper.
4x 120 grit orbit sander sand paper.
4x 240 grit orbit sander sand paper.
    1xbucket.
    4 sheet 400 grit 3m sand paper.
    4 sheet 800 grit 3m sand paper.
    4 sheet 1500 grit 3m sand paper.
    4 sheet 2000 grit 3m sand paper.
    3m masking tape.
    Autoglym metal polish.
Wheel wax/ Liquid turtle wax/ Spray on wax
    2x Microfiber cloth.

    1. Take one sheet of sand paper, cut into 5 equal pieces, each piece for a spoke, 1 sheet per wheel.
    2. Mask up the painted parts on the side of the spoke with 3m tape.
    3. Remove the clearcoat on the wheel with 80 grit with orbit sander at max speed.
You may need more 80 grit than expected! You'll need to hand sand the center of the spoke and the rim of the wheel.
    4. Remove 80 grit scratches with 120 grit, don't need to press the orbit sander, let the machine do the job or you'll leave irremovable scratches on the wheel.
    5. Remove 120 grit marks with 240 grit, set orbit sander at 70% speed.
How it looks after 240 grit.

    6. Fill the bucket with water and wet sand with the pre-cut 400 grit sand paper, 1 piece per spoke.
    7. Wet sand with the pre-cut 800 grit sand paper, 1 piece per spoke.
    8. Wet sand with the pre-cut 1500 grit sand paper, 1 piece per spoke.
    9. Wet sand with the pre-cut 2000 grit sand paper, 1 piece per spoke.
How it looks after wet sanding

    10. Polish the wheel a piece of microfiber cloth, and buff clean with the other cloth after the compound dries.
    11. Apply your favourite wax and enjoy your work!

PS: Don't bash my ride height, lowered the front end a month ago. Front and rear 1 thumb gap between tire and fender.....
