Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan Concept
Volkswagen has released preliminary details and a photo gallery with the Golf Sportsvan concept.
Described as a compact minivan, the Golf Sportsvan is pretty much a preview of the upcoming Golf Plus which our spies have already caught testing. The concept is 134mm longer than the previous Golf Plus and 83mm longer than the five-door Golf hatchback. In addition, the wheelbase has been extended by 48mm compared to the regular Golf VII and it's also 126mm taller and 8mm wider which has made the cabin roomier.
Cargo capacity now stands at 498 liters which means it has 74 liters more to offer than its predecessor. The rear bench has a 60:40 split and can slide fore and aft by 180mm to provide an extra 87 liters of storage space. In addition, the front passenger seat can be folded forward flat to enable a load space of 2484mm.
Volkswagen says the concept has been developed to work with an array of six engine, with outputs ranging from 85 HP (63 kW) to 150 HP (110 kW). The most frugal version is the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion with 110 HP (81 kW) which enables the Golf Sportsvan to have a fuel consumption of 3.7 liters / 100 km (63.5 mpg UK or 76.3 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 95 g/km.
Various safety and assistance systems have been incorporated in this concept, such as Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, City Emergency Braking, lane-keeping assistant and emergency braking function, just to name a few.
