  • Any of you Tdi owners do the tank vent mod?

From what I gather by removing the little check valve for the vent at the top of the filler neck it gains you another 1-2L of fuel. Anyone confirm this for me and educate me on it? Also have a comparison in your milage per tank before and after? I am always looking for ways to go further per a tank.

    Thanks.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a gas versus diesel thread.

1-2 liters is way low, you could put if you wait for the bubbles to drop you could probably get 3-5 Liters. My jetta came with it done, I just use the spring around the nozzle to hold the vent open. Venting can easily get you another 100 km on the tank vs not doing it.

Venting 4 life yo. As Ben mentioned just use the tank nozzle to do it. Last I remember you can add around 7-8L more.

Have always used the spring on the nozzle to open the vent like Ben said. Yes, it let you cram a lot more fuel in.

Since day one. Same thing you can vent by hand or follow the diy to remove it completely.

Yes. It gets you around 7 liters more. 2 minute job to remove the valve.

Did the ventectomy a few years ago, makes a huge difference on a long trip. On my TD Jetta, I just held it down with the nozzle.

Got the time to do it this morning. Nice little 5 minute mod. Looking forward to seeing the results.

                Big thanks fellow Tdi'ers!

By taking it out completely do you get any more than just venting it with the little switch? The most I have put into my tank was 54 liters vented to the top of the neck, and I usually do around 1250km on a tank on the highway before I fill up. How much do you guys fit in your tank?

It freaked me out when I managed to fill 52L in my gasser jetta.... Don't we only have a 50L tank though?

Diesel doesn't expand and contract like gas so they let you put more fuel in if you vent it. I don't usually go much past the fuel light and I usually put 54 liters or just under.
