Maybe paint the outside with rubber gravel guard before putting it on? it might give it a bit of extra impact cushioning and maybe it will last longer.

The broken piece is not under the engine so it's not really a skid plate. It's more an under car lining that run the length of the car to better the flow and protect the body from projections.

I just got it ordered and will probably put it on this week end

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the op talking about this piece? If so, a skid plate would do absolutley nothing. Also, skid plates are lame.

My point is, if he is going to replace it, for about the same money he can put an aluminum one on that is more durable and offers more protection.
    And HI TJ

I have fixed many of those panels. Just need a drill and a few zip ties! and its good as new. I could have a look for you as well if you dont have them.

If not a new metal skid plate is gonna run around 300

I would do as George is suggesting and replace it with an aluminum skidplate. Just offers better protection. It wont snap like the plastic ones.
I haven't had skidplates on most of my cars and really its not a big deal. If you don't want to spend money on another one it's not imperative that you do.

Without the "bellypads" you'll see a lot more sand, road grime etc that can cause issues later...I personally lost mine a year after I bought my car, and replaced it with an Evolution aluminum skid plate for about the same price....there are those that don't like them, but I'm also low and its saved my oil pan several times.

You don't really need it. Just the engine bay gets a little dirtier.

This is what I will probably do.

It's the plastic liner running on the under side of the car

The panel broke off. I now have just the crews in place and no panel.
