Volkswagen Tristar Concept
Volkswagen has unveiled the Tristar concept at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover.
Designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first Syncro concept, the Tristar is an extended cab pickup that is based on the Transporter.
Since it was designed as an off-roader, the concept has been equipped with an aggressive exterior that includes plastic body cladding, a 30mm increased ride height and 17-inch alloy wheels with off-road tires. The concept also has a sportier front fascia with a revised grille, LED headlights and a winch.
Despite the rugged exterior, the cabin comes nicely equipped with premium leather seats, metallic trim and an espresso machine. The concept also boasts a 20-inch tablet and "state-of-the-art video conferencing and sound systems."
Power is provided by a 2.0-liter TDI engine that produces 201 bhp (150 kW) and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed DSG transmission and a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system which enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 10 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph).
According to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Chairman Dr. Eckhard Scholz, "The Tristar shows an unprecedented combination of all the good features of the T model series. It demonstrates its potential and proves it is still the ultimate benchmark."
