  • 1.8T rough start idle

    Hi all,

Posting for a friends wife. Idles really rough on start up.

Car is a 2002 Golf 1.8t auto 135,000km , No faults, run great when @ temp, or starts & runs good when engine warm but Bad enough @ cold start up, that the exhaust is gas rich smell, & that it will stall out if you try too aggressive with throttle. Plugs done 20,000km coil packs recall 25,000km ago and t-belt done also .

Any insight would be great .. Tia

Boost/vac leak test should be done first.

Check with vag-com the coolant temp sensor through the engine and through the instrument cluster to make sure they match, could be a faulty coolant temp sensor. Boost leak is another one.
