  • 75K TDI service recommendations

    hi guys,

Advice needed. i am due for my 75K service for my 2012 TDI 6MT. strapped for cash and only want to do the necessary maintenance items like the Oil change. had my fuel filter changed out at 60K so im good for that. VW.ca is recommending brake fluid and coolant change. if it needs then i will but what do you guys think? are there other items i am missing and should be taking care of? Thanks.

Just don't bring it to the dealer unless you want them to detune your car with less power and efficiency in order to fix the emission issue.

not sure if they are detuning/fixing them yet but i am going to the dealer because of the credit package they gave to everyone affected which is $500 credit card which must be exclusively used at dealer and another $500 credit card to be used anywhere else or at dealer if one chooses too. and yes i wont let them touch the emissions.

edit: so when i said "strapped for cash" i actually mean i don't want to spend the credit on wasted fluff maintenance.

I wouldn't worry about the coolant....there's as reason G12 is pricey, and as for the tranny fluid, Redline MT 90 by 120k kms. timing belt will be the next big service $11-1300 at a stealership minus your credit if you still have it.

Coolant will get replaced at timing belt/waterpump time.

Gear oil, I'd use Gear 300.

Brake Fluid, I would test water content.

Maybe get the Engine air filter & Cabin air filter if they haven't been done.

Depends on the driving that you are doing, if its all highway, TDI's don't get very hot and the fluid doesn't break down as quickly. In that case I'd do 80-100k intervals, you could probably go more. I've seen trans fluid in MK6 TDI's with 150-200k km on it that's all highway and everything about it looked and smelled fine.
