OK so does one really need to run with the OEM Plastic Skid plate..... as I was driving home I heard a funny noise but just over swells in the road... low a behold the skidplate is just hangin there.....

So Should I jsut hack the sonofa out of there or get a new one installed?

Get the dieselgeek one, you can use it as a jacking point.

the stock one is shitty and falls off. i'm guessing a majority of the members of NVD dont have theirs on anymore. mine just fell off.

There are some A/C lines along with some other plumbing that the shield is "protecting" from road debris. It's not really needed for operation, but if you cruise along dirt roads all the time then I'd suggest getting something to replace it!

I had ordered and had installed the Steel "Diesel Geek" Skid plate on my car (btw. it actually is an european factory VW part, with VW stickers attached)... then I had it removed and MODIFIED so it actually would fit... now it works well... OK .. it kinda does the job.... more about that another time...

I WOULD NOT recomend driving with OUT BODY ARMOR under your car.... all it takes is for you to be distracted ONCE... and you hit a rock...or a huge chunk of ice that falls off, from behind a semi's wheels... or a piece of junk thats on the road (Talk to Bart on this one... rocks seem to attack innocent cars out of nowhere on the Deerfoot) ... and, if it hits your oil pan... it could be VERY expensive....

I know of a guy in town that is in process of developing a better skid plate for MK4's.... he is a machinist, mechanic and has his own shop.. also an ex-rally driver, he modified my plate... and now is developing his own design... I will keep you posted...

Ohh I want the hook up on this one as long as it has the extra clearance like the new aluminum DG plate does. Are you getting new sidewalls made too? Any chance we can get him to make up a couple of the TDI intake pipes?

Ohh I want the hook up on this one as long as it has the extra clearance like the new aluminum DG plate does. Are you getting new sidewalls made too? Any chance we can get him to make up a couple of the TDI intake pipes?

Check out my car the next time I'm at a meeting (I'm planning on being there on Thursday May 6th) .. you can peek at the plate ...(if you get reallllllly low on the ground...)

I think if a local guy could come up with a good skid plate at a reasonable price he could do well for himself. I know I would be interested in one. It seems alot of mkIVs you see on the road has the plastic skid plate hanging down.

I will be there on thursday so I will for sure have to check it out. Yes the sidewalls are sort of redundant but they do help seal it in a bit more (even though one of my plastic ones is shot). I am talking about the air intake pipe to the turbo, check out my post with links to pics and the thread at the TDIclub site.
