PERFRECT! Rachal, I need to put in (and by "I", I mean someone else in the club ) my new Brembo rotors. I'd really like to learn how to do brakes as well. Anyone up for a "brake mod" day on Saturday? Brent offered to help put mine in but I think he's been drafted into the war cuz I haven't seen him post in a while.

Oh yeah, the $1450 is a load-o-crap BTW

ok so.....im not entirely sure i am willing to do a ghetto install as the last time we attempted one, not much transpired.... Unless yous guys are sure that you can get the job done....

Edit: Even if you don't want to try the ghetto install, I am sure you can find a brake shop that will do it cheap. Montgomery auto pts might install the calipers even, I think Simon D said they have a really low shop rate.

I've never replaced calipers but disc brakes are so easy to do. I'm sure you guys will have no problem. The only thing I forgot to do was take out some of the brake fluid out of the reservoir so when I pushed the caliper back some ran out, that was about the worst of it.

Don't worry I don't do getto when it comes to anything mechanical Give me a cal tonight and we can work something out. BTW I really don't think your calipers need replacing. Most brake places just change them as excuse. Unless they have cracked rubber boots or they are really old I wouldn't change them. I also think I should phone them on your behalf and find out their parts pricing as at 1400$ I think they are trying to ride you becuase you are a woman and there is nothing I hate more then that!

You DONT NEEED NEW CALIPERS unless something is seriously wrong, or the shop wants to take you for a ride! If you need new calipers, then your old ones must not be working at all anymore, therefore your car has no braking ability whatsoever. If you car still stops, at all, then your calipers are fine.

Just get a bentley manual. Brakes are easy to do so long as you have the right tools. And bleeding isnt that big a deal either, just make sure that NONE of the fluid gets onto your driveway. Those stains never come off.

I agree the only reason I changed calipers on my '85 was because the bleeder valves where rusted solid

I got brembo xdrilled front and back and ceramic pads front and back from C1 for a REALLY good price ($550 something like that). Installed em two hours without any wierd tools. I made my own caliper spreader tool for the rears because you need to turn the piston as you push it into the calipers housing.

That is not to bad a price. I got my brembo rears and pagid pads from Mongomery Auto for just over a 150 I think and the rear tool was 15$ at parts source. For her Mk3 they shoudl be even cheaper.

i got some numbers from pgperformance and it seems pretty ok....i suppose i can go with the ghetto install if yous guys are willing to put in the effort, i can always change my mind if things dont work
And the mechanic told me that my brakes dont work AT ALL...so im gonna go ahead and get new calipers.....apparently it cant be driven so im going to have to tow it to where-ever i (you?!) are doin the install.

If its just the rear brakes that are broken, then you can drive with front brakes only? Towing is expensive.

kor, dude, i cant drive the car at all.....
im gonna need a driveway to do this install on....basically i was thinking of towing the b**ch directly from certiguard to whereever i (we) are dooing the work, to save money.....suggestions/opinions/witty remarks anyone?!
