Does anyone on NVD have the diode installed yet?

    Sean had/has it.

The only reason to fool the MAP sensor is if you want to run more boost than the ECU allows. On a chipped ECU, your boost is set to about 16 psi but you have some leeway and can probably run 18 psi or so.

This is really as much as the stock turbo can efficiently produce...

Moreover, you have to bravely assume for this mod that the MAP sensor does not help the ECU decide how much fuel your engine needs while under boost. Because if your MAP sensor thinks you have 17 psi of boost and you are running 20 psi, you need extra fuel from somewhere...

The only other reason to have it is because it's cheap. If you don't want to pay 500-1000 for a chip you can make yourself a ghetto chip with the diode and a few bolt ons - the 1.8T forum has the details (I'm not about to take that path myself).

Sounds like a good way to blow up your car, ooooh if only I had a turbo...

          Very true,

Some people on vortex are just commenting on how the tiptronic tranny requires the diode to allow a MBC to work correctly.

I have numerous 4.3V and 4.7V @ 5Watts (indestructible) zener diodes if someone wants to buy some and try them out.

And yes, they do make good power at the cost of running lean.

so you know for a fact that the diodes make the engine run lean?

In my experiments the MAP has no effect on fueling or requested boost.

I used a diode my self for about 2 years on my car with a big turbo and I had extra fuel in case it leaned out.. They way it all works is that it keeps the car from going in to limp mode.. The car will only see 14.7psi VS your car running at 20 psi with a mbc..

how did you have extra fuel?

I used a SDS EIC with two 450CC injectors at the TB..I still have the stuff but not using it cause I got a BT program.
