I have 225's on my 8.5's. There is a decent amount of stretch though.

Defintely Blair... stretch is nice. Although within reason of course. I've seen some crazyness on the vortex.

I like the look now, hated it at first. But I would never go that extreme do to my practical side.

yea that beetle is nuts! stretch is good.. but if i was rocking LMs i wouldn't stretch that much just to be paranoid of rim damage if the unmentionable happened

Just out of curiousity, is there a down side to stretch? Does it make it easier for the tire to come off or something? Just kinda looks a little unsafe (but very hot).

downside would be its stressing the tire and it could i guess blow out easier or even come off if you hit something i dunno.. it also makes your lips stick out the the rim protector is useless.. lots of stretch looks good but its bad.. lil stretch like most of us have is juuuuuuust right

Well there's the loading issue for sure, I don't know all the technical mumbo jumbo but there's kind of a sidewall/treadwidth "ideal" if you go narrower you need a bigger sidewall etc. I think if you run huge stretch on a low profile tire you're you're violating your "Maximum load" requirements. But I'd be scared of those suckers rolling off on a corner too!

I have heard stories of the bead popping when cornering to fast if they are stretched too much, and something like the rim will dig into the asphalt and flip the car.

According to Kumho specs of 712s 225/45/17 can fit in the rim width range of 7.0 to 8.5 in.
