A slow day question

I have a question. Do coilovers give you more clearance or less clearance than say a cup kit? I mean, can you get a wider wheel under your car with coilovers? or cup kit? Assuming offset is the same.

I would say coils would give you more as the springs on coils are a smaller diameter then traditional springs in a spring/shock combo but that is just my assumption.

I would assume the wheels would have to be an insane width before that would become an issue.

Yea, that's what I thought too, but they mount up a bit differently I think, ah whatever, i'm just thinking about my wheels (not worried about them, just got me thinking).

When I had my H&R coil overs, there was a definite limit to how low I could go in the front before rubbing the tires on the springs. It was pretty low though so wasn't an issue. I could have also used spacers for clearance but I'd never run spacers on the drive wheels.

I have those H&R's down 2", and never rub. Actually, I did rub once on that Banff cruise.... but that's it.

2" is peanuts. The rubbing occured at about the 3.5" mark.

When I first installed my coilovers I had them as low as they could go for the first week, AND I was running my stock 17" monte Carlos. THAT my friends is rubbing. Looked pretty sweet tho.

On another note, I scraped my new chin spoiler this morning, it didn't damage it but it gave me an odd sense of satisfaction I can't imagine how some of you guys get around because i'm still 4x4 height compared to some of you guys.

On another note, I scraped my new chin spoiler this morning, it didn't damage it but it gave me an odd sense of satisfaction I can't imagine how some of you guys get around because i'm still 4x4 height compared to some of you guys.

I scrape but every few months I just get down under my car and sand and spraypaint the bottom of my bumper with a can of Canadian Tire brand black. I am slowly losing plastic thickness down there though.

Thats why MK3 plastic spoilers rock because they are cheap and you can scrape them up with no worries. You should have seen mine when I sold my car it was pretty 'used' I can only imagine how much damage I would have done to that deep one, but it looks good on your car!!
