Last week I was about to leave for work at 7:40 am. When I got to my car (04 jetta) I noticed a big x on my pass window. I moved to the drivers side and that window was also xed. 2 doors down from me 3 domestic vehicals were broken into. (Windows broken) I could also see impact marks on both windows of my car. This makes me believe that VW uses a higher quality glass than domestics. Does any one know if this is the case, or am I just lucky they didn't break?

VW glass quality?

Re: VW glass quality?
The little buggers used what I think would be porcelain, or maybe a glass cutter. The x is actually eched into the glass to weeken it. That's why I thought that VW glass is a higher quality than the three domistic cars they did get into. One car (02 sunflower) had an x in the drivers window but they broke the pass window. The impack marks are little chips taken out of the windows. This also makes me believe they were using porcelain. It's also the weapon of choice for car thieves.Originally posted by KorMakes no sense, breaking glass is easy...
What do you mean an "X"? Maybe thieves marked cars with car alarms.

Re: VW glass quality?
I doubt they would do that to weaken it since tempered glass can be shattered in less then a second with a spring loaded centre punch or any pointed object with some weight behind it. Ive broken lotsa glass.Originally posted by slammedorblowenThe x is actually eched into the glass to weeken it.

Bottom line. If you have something in your car that thieves want... they WILL get it.Originally posted by SilverfireI doubt they would do that to weaken it since tempered glass can be shattered in less then a second with a spring loaded centre punch or any pointed object with some weight behind it.
