Diesel more than gas??

What the? Being a new diesel owner this was a bit of a surprise on my fillup today... Supply & demand I guess. I used ultra but reg diesel was more expensive also?

Mabye because of the cold season they spiked it?

God I know is sucks to no end. Never have I ever payed more for diesel then gas on 2 fill ups in a row (and that is a long time between fillups!). It may have something to do with the costs that have to go into the refineries right now to get them ready to make ultra low sulfer diesel which is mandated for next year but I think it is just a cash grab. Try filling up as super store, atleast that way you will get about $4 back for food

i paid 104.9 the other day...at the gas station i was at it was the same cost as PREMIUM fuel...I thought diesel refinement cost was like 1/100 of what it is for gas?!

Isn't diesel more expensive everywhere else in the world, except NA because it was so dirty? Which is why the NA trucker unions lobbied so hard to prevent higher quality diesel here?

I was filling up yesterday and it was the first time I saw Diesel over the $1 mark, upsetting. Are they changing the quality of the diesel in Canada?

Yes, they are going to start making ultra low sulfur diesel like Brent said. It is my understanding that North America has by far the dirtiest diesel in the entire world! We (NA) make much less of an attempt to refine our diesel further because everyone is worried about making the extra buck by getting it out of the plant faster.....BS if you ask me

When I filled yesterday it was 1.05 and premium was only 1.00 WTF!!!
all diesel is, is a byproduct from when the make gasoline, we are getting screwed

key word is :GOING TO. They havent yet, they are just raising prices to offset that which is complete crap..Dont they have until the end of 2k6 for that? jumping the gun on the price raise really early

I just got back from Europe, and I'm fairly certain that diesel was still cheaper than gas, not a whole lot cheaper, but cheaper nonetheless.

Maybe someone should contact one of those TV consumer advocate people. May not get results, but its fun to watch the corporate weasels squirm as they try to come up with an excuse (i.e. lie).

You may be getting screwed but the diesel you buy is not a byproduct, it is a refined product - oilsands oil for example does not make gas but makes diesel.

You're still getting way better mileage than gas engines so it still costs you less to run your car.

This bothers me as well. This only happened recently too. I just bought an 05 golf TDI, and part of the argument about how it was going to save me money was that diesel was cheaper than gas, so I would get both better mileage, and pay less per litre for fuel.... so much for that argument. Soon it will be cheaper to drive a 1.8T instead of the 1.9L TDI in a golf. In fact, at all of the gas stations around me, gas is down to 90c/L, while diesel is at $1.05!!
Somebody told me that it is because bush ordered the refineries in the southern states to produce a much higher amount of gas, and less of diesel, in order to keep everybody in america happy while refinery output was lowered as a result of the hurricanes. I sure hope this isn't the case.
