So, I finally figured out that my car was bought originally in BC, so it most likely does not have a block heater. I phoned the VW stealership, and they said, "on the 1.8T, we can't put a block heater on; we can only put on a pan heater." Is there truth to this? I guess I need something, and warming the oil is better dan nuttin'.

Re: Pan Heater
Yes and no....I don't think there is an access hole in the block for a heater, and they can install a pan heater, but your best option is................Zerostart/Temro tank style circulating coolant heater, available at Canuck tire....install is interesting, but if you follow the instructions for the TDI available on the web, you'll be set.....Search Temro on here and you'll find my thread...2006 Colorado Xtreme | AEM CAI | Walker exhaust | smoked glass | -1" dropped rear | Avic D3 | 8000K HID's

At work, I plug my car in as soon as I get there, and it stays plugged in (pan heater and tank heater) for 12 hours, I get back in my car at 3am and its like I just parked it, just the seat is cold!2006 Colorado Xtreme | AEM CAI | Walker exhaust | smoked glass | -1" dropped rear | Avic D3 | 8000K HID's

Re: Pan Heater
I got one of thoes Temro Zerostart Coolant heaters that you gave the good reviews on, should be good once I get it installed. Should I keep the pan heater as well?Originally posted by AleksAt work, I plug my car in as soon as I get there, and it stays plugged in (pan heater and tank heater) for 12 hours, I get back in my car at 3am and its like I just parked it, just the seat is cold!

Re: Pan Heater
Yes, there is a small amount of oil heating with a coolant heater (as it circulates past the oil at the filter mount), but you can't beat its own heating pad, keeps the oil flowing great....I use both all the time!2006 Colorado Xtreme | AEM CAI | Walker exhaust | smoked glass | -1" dropped rear | Avic D3 | 8000K HID's

Re: Pan Heater
I'm going to return the 1000W Canadian Tire one and get one from Greggs that has the built in thermostat and its only 750W, we will see how it works, should be cheaper to operate.Originally posted by TDi_SteveCan you please Tell me where you got it

Re: Pan Heater
Mine's 1500W, I got mine on sale for $52....I only use the timer at home, cause a 1500W heater and a pan heater sucks back alot of juice...2006 Colorado Xtreme | AEM CAI | Walker exhaust | smoked glass | -1" dropped rear | Avic D3 | 8000K HID's

I think mine are the 1000watt ones. What is the thermostat going to do on that unit?Originally posted by TDI DUBI'm going to return the 1000W Canadian Tire one and get one from Greggs that has the built in thermostat and its only 750W, we will see how it works, should be cheaper to operate.Name: Brent
