From my experience, this would be tough to do... To have it look professional, very tough. Just to door a door mirror was hard, and then we tried a trunk but gave up - really hard when it starts to bunch and you can't stretch it out.

Todd tried.. in fact he still has a full roll of matte white to get rid of. He can chime in, but it sounded like a long drawn out painful process.

takes alot of time and effort.
not really worth it,, unless youve done it before.
took 3 tries to get a door looking semi decent, then still had issues with bubbles.
if you really want it, id pay for someone to do it for you.

thread revival:has anyone seen di-noc covered with a clear film. I want to vinyl my roof sometime in the next year, I really like the look of di-noc...BUT... I have a sunroof and from pictures I've seen online the matte finish of the dinoc really clashes with the gloss of the sun roof (and no I'm not about to dinoc my sunroof ). I've read on some sites that people just throw a gloss clear vinyl over it but I am curious as to if it actually looks ok

Re: I want my roof black???

Assuming your talking about the carbon fibre dinoc, the texture of the dinoc causes small air bubbles to get trapped in the weave of the carbon fibre when you apply a layer of clear vinyl on top. Looks ok from a distance but up close it looks like crap.

yea the cf di-noc, good point about the texture, I was also thinking when I looked at the 3m on my brothers passat this morning that the clear may go yellowish after time which would look horrible. I've also heard of people clear coating the cf di-noc with success, I may try this when I di-noc some interior pieces but I'm not about to spend hours clearing my roof haha. Looks like I may be stuck to a straight gloss black vinyl. I am also looking into that "3D" cf vinyl but I can't tell from pictures if its the really fake looking stuff.

Re: I want my roof black???

clearing cf di-noc turns it full black..........you can't see a cf weave after applying clear coat

yea i've heard with the clear it gets fairly dark but i've seen pictures and after 4 coats of clear you could still see the weave and it gave it a nice glossy finish.

                            Fellas,

I'm considering this for the roof my GTi more so a practical application.
There is always on a roof rack on it (winter/snowboard & summer/bike), and I'm getting concerned about the gunk, and rust potential from the feet of the roof rack.

Reflex Silver --- Perhaps flat black? Suggestions?

The front end is already 3M'd clear.
                            TIA
