Need help with my 07 gti

Hey guys ok so i bought an 07 gti with minor front damage and i noticed that the areas where you bolt on the radiator to the intercooler where broken, when i turn the car on the engine begins to rev up around 2 or 3 thousand rpm falls back down and revs up again for a bit and eventually turns off. I recently noticed that air is escaping from the cracks in the intercooler. Could this be the problem bc i honestly dont know much about mechanics. One more thing when i disconect the maf sensor the engine stops reving up and stays somewhat idled but a bit shakey. Any input would be great thnks guys
