Move the engine? Like towards the passanger wheel?

Pretty much. Once the engine is free to move around you can shift it however’s needed. When I swapped out my FWD 02M for the AWD 02M I just had the engine resting on blocks and used my jack to install. Pulling the front end off would make things even easier.

Here are a couple pics that might help...

If you can't remove the engine then you'll probably want to remove the subframe, you can remove the transmission with the subframe in place but that will take forever. Removing the subframe is for being able to reinstall your tranny or it'll be a very difficult job

Thanks for everyone's tips, I finally dropped the transmission, all I had to do was remove the CV axle flange off the transmssion. The transmission is filled with grease so im gonna try and clean it, also doing the rear main seal soon!

Also I've been begging my girlfriend to do this for me (Coolant ball)

On the 1.8t 6 speed the rivets in the shift forks break and you lose 1st-2nd gear.

Got around to doing more work on the car last night. I've been pretty busy with school so haven't really had time. When ever i was under the car in summer there would always be a drip of oil between the transmission and engine so I replaced the rear main seal last night and also redid the gasket on the oil pan so hopefully it gets rid of that drip. Also got this 4motion lip from Colin at CAW. One of the tabs needs to be shaved down abit then it will fit perfectly!

Finished the car and took it for a test drive and didn't like the results... The traction control light starts flashing when I give it more then 10% throttle, the only way it will trun off is if I let go and then it will drive fine for another 20 seconds until it starts flashing again. Also the alignment got super messed up, steering wheel is pointing about 45 degrees to the right, the right wheel is pointing right and the left is pointing straight. No idea how it happened, maybe because when I took it off jack-stands I lowered the back wheels first, then front left and then front right. but when I lowered the front left it seemed like the wheel moved abit, could the alignment get messed up if there's a lot of pressure on 1 wheel. In my head it seems possible because the steering wheel was locked and I don't believe the FR wheel moved. if anyone could chime it it would be great!

Did the subframe move at all?
                          Control arms removed at all?
                          Ball joints undone?
Steering rack nudged by the transmission?
Any of the above could result in alignment issues, but if you simply put the vehicle on jack stands and went in from the top of the engine bay there shouldn't be any problems.

Nope(drove with maf unplugged on buddy's 24v and only had cel), he mightve plugged a wire somewhere wrong or forgot something, do a quick toe check with some jack stands and strings and hopefully you just need to adjust your tierods. Any of the causes Sean stated wouldnt cause 45* steering wheel correction though. You could've bent a tierod(hopefully).
