    Re: Racing 2015

    Sunday

    Morning Practice
It had rained over night so practice was going to be iffy and with our first race 30min after our practice we decided not to go out so we could have enough time to prep the cars before the race.

    Race 2
So the morning 30 min race was delayed by a good 20min as a car in a previous group laid down a huge amount of oil between turns 1 and 2 and clean up took a while. As the first cars out we did an extra pace lap just to get a feel of the oil dry and where it was on our line. Race started good but i saw the Orange F1000 behind me and this is the rental driver that spun a bunch of times during qualy so i was a bit nervous with him their. I thought about letting him go but the racer in me would let that happen so i tried to run a hot lap on cold tires and see if he could keep up. He did not and spun in the bus stop. When he tried to get going again he high centered on a curb and got stuck so we had a bunch of laps under caution. Under the caution my old man snuck up on me closing the gap under the yellows. He held on for a few laps but i pulled the gap once again. He began to lose his front right again and you can see the flat spot later in the video. He can't hold on to 2nd and Teague gets by him at this time i am lapping the orange F1000 again and i push to open up a gap to him as i still don't really like him being around me. This was a bad idea as i overheat the tires and they fall off the cliff. This leads to the F1000 getting back around and Teague catching me with about 3 laps to go. My car is terrible but i manage to block like a mofo and stay in front.

Old Man Best Lap - 1:19.861
    My Best Lap - 1:19.932

    Race 3
So for the Alberta points race we both have to switch over to good tires we had planned on saving for Spokane but since Teague had moved to his newer set the race before we knew we couldn't keep him behind with our old sets. Not to mention we could see cord on my dad's right front.

Race starts great on fresh rubber i start to take off with my dad chasing but as we get to turn 5 he tries to keep up and can't and spins the car at about 90mph. I didn't even notice while driving but on my second lap in turn 5 i run over something that turns out to be part of the old mans diffuser that broke off during his spin. I get a couple more corners in opening up a big gap when first gear lets go for no reason as i accelerate onto a short straight. Pull in to the pits and my race is over. The old man continues on just lapping around for fun and so he can say he beat me.

Once again something must be wrong with my gearbox as we keep eating gears and this one wasn't even during a shift of any kind. Looks like the layshaft side of the gear let go and ate all of its teeth very very strange.

    Race Weekend 1

Well now with 2 cars and less crew the weekends are a bit busier than usual. Not to mention the strange schedule we where running as first run group.

    Morning Practice
Just trying to make sure all the cars are together and operating properly no bolts falling off etc.
I run a 1:21.7 and notice that this set of tires is pretty much garbage as the fronts have no grip what so ever. Old man gets no times as his transponder isn't working (Ground wire broken). I notice after coming in that my rear wing is laying back at an odd angle. Front bolt removed itself and the air pushed the wing back into a reclined position. So i replace the bolt and lock tight them all down other than that cars are good.

    Qualy
I put on a set of stickers to scrub in for Spokane while the old man stays with his worst set as he is still working on getting to grips with the new car. We go out and can't seem to get a clean lap in as the renter in one of the F1000's is spinning every lap it seems. I manage to get a good lap in and call it quits as i can't afford to ruin this set of new tires going hot lap then cold then hot. Takes the old man about 9 laps before he gets a clean one in. The F1000 car spins 5 times during qualy (Stewards have a word with him). I am P1 with a time of 1:18.118 and the old man is P3 with a time of 1:20.804.

Our personal bests for reference are Old Man - 1:18.4 and mine is - 1:17.8. So we are a little back on times but I am not running correct gearing and the old man is new to his car so we are close.

    Race 1
So in racing the golden rule for team mates is no contact and pretty much the same rule for openwheel cars as it usually ends badly. We made it to turn 2 on lap 1 before contact (It was mostly my fault).
I have trouble with turning my video on but we do get video from the old man. He keeps up with me for the first 5 or so laps but can't keep the pace and i manage to pull a gap. He misses a shift about 10laps in and the 3rd place car gets by him. He keeps it close for the whole race trying to get second back but in the process the front tires start to go away badly near the end. Bad front tires soon becomes the theme for this weekend. We end up 1st and 3rd overall and in class. Old Man - 1:19.613 Me - 1:19.371

More to come later when I get Sunday's videos uploaded.

I always have some video running. I have about 4 cameras now so should get some different angles. I will put a couple on my dads car so you can see what blocking looks like.

    Re: Racing 2015

Well a really long weekend race prep wise.

Saturday morning ran around picking up parts for the car

New lightend wheel spacers (Saves about 8-10lbs)

    New front wing aero package

Some other nose and wing pieces for the cars

and tires more tires and then some more tires (there are 3 and 1/2 more sets not pictured here)

Sunday had most of the cars together.

Then by Monday we where back to square one with the Mygale.

All thanks to the stupid hydraulic clutch (Turns out the hose was leaking in behind not the slave cylinder we replaced)

Did I mention I hate Hydraulic clutches

    Re: Racing 2015

Last year I was keen on going but couldn't make it due to work. I'll see what I can manage this season. Hopefully I can, as my schedule is looking a bit more stable this year.
