In a piston type valve it won't matter. When vacuum is applied to the top of the valve the piston moves and air goes through in either direction. It just sound chirpy/weird.
If you want loud though I can definitely recommend the Neuspeed CAI which is also a super awesome quality intake.
On my Mk4 I had a Neuspeed Race CAI and a Forge piston DV reversed, and it was so loud that I thought the sound would shatter bus shelter glass. This is an internally vented valve.
So why hook the DV in reverse?? What advantages does does this method have? I have upgraded DV's and intake system, besides the extra growl from intake I don't hear DV's operating at all. How much boost were you running, maybe I just don't have enough boost.
I has Neuspeed Cold air intake on my mk4 gti 1.8t and i upgraded the stock diverter valve to a forge alluminum one. Its pretty much like a blow off valve if you know what that is. Except it dumps the air back into the intake not under the hood.
I didnt notice any differnce with the upgraded dv but it said that is needs to be upgraded if you plan to chip and add more boost etc.
With Cold air intake you will lose a tiny bit of low end but gain some top end. I love it, you can really hear the turbo spool and howl. Then when you change gears or realease your foot off the gas you get a big "psshhhhhh" of air sound. I liked it.
