Yeah god dammit, today after work, the coolant light went on and the expansion tank had only a little coolant (pretty much water) left in it. Seems like there's a leak somewhere. I need to put proper G12 in there asap but don't want it to leak out so I gotta find the leak first. Where are the most common places to find a leak? Gahhhh this is a nightmare for a MK2 kid

I don't know VR's but I do know many people replace the "crack pipe" as it leaks.

Pressure testing the coolant system will be the best way to find the leaks. Hopefully it's external .

sean said he checked that and it was alright. if your abs light is on and there is a problem with the module, vagcom wont connect.

Yup the k-line shouldn't be a problem because with the vagcom plugged in the LED on the cable is green not red, this means its good. plus i was able to save a test configuration file on the car so it is physically connected and the wiring is all there. Sounds like the ABS issue.

Oh btw i didn't ask you, you said you filled it up with water, did you make sure it was distilled water or was it just tap water?
Also nightmare's happen, just read the DIY and do some work before the snow hits haha. You should be able to figure it out, its not super difficult. Check the bottom of the engine for drips to see which side of the engine it is coming from, then trace the dripping up to the source. Should be easy to tell where it is coming from with dry roads

Alright so it's been leaking about 0.5L a day, and I've been filling it with tap water. I know I know... but I had no choice. Anyway, on CVD, a guy offered to help me, and did my tstat, housing, and G12 coolant flush. The car's temp is absolutely perfect now. Warms up quick, gets hot and stays perfectly at 90° The crackpipe is fine, but if it ever has to be done, it'll be replaced with the gruven parts aluminum one.

Also it turns out that the light in my dash is not the ABS one, but in fact the brake pad warning light. The brake pads look perfectly fine, so I'm not sure why the light is on. I'm gonna get in there and check the sensor wiring.

Car is great now, most problems fixed... getting sideways in the snow last night was a blast as well!

Well interestingly, Sean (MechEngg) attempted to scan my car a week or two ago and it came up with the message "Car is not OBD II compatible". To my knowledge, this was generally caused by one of two (or I guess both) issues. The K-line issue with aftermarket decks, or something to do with the ABS light. K-line is fine, ABS light is OFF but brake pad wear light is ON. Not sure what's up with the vag-com then. I'm gonna buy a cable off Colin and try and fiddle around with it myself.

If it has been leaking that much and you have been only adding water, prepare for a world of wallet hurt when something freezes and breaks apart on you.

I know, I had no choice at the time. I was afraid that if there was in fact a bit of G12 left in there, it would gel up when mixed with anything else. I only did this for about 3 or 4 days before it got fixed (temp went as low as like -3) I'm now protected to -55°C

Ran in to a coolant issue on a Sunday once... with no dealers open Sundays, I now keep a jug of G12 on standby in my garage.

Just an update, car is running great and warming up super fast. It's nice having a fully loaded car with heated seats and power everything
And yeah I'll probably pick up some spare G12 and keep it for a rainy day!
