Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
Had this happen to my Mk4 sports seats. I ended up having to get a used seat base and replacing the subframe. Not a big job, but a PITA none the less.
I am a big guy but I damn near sharted when I took off at a light and ended up in the back seat.

Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
Not only his life but the safety of all other motorists/people on the road. A seat shearing off its base while the vehicle is being operated isn't something minor. The issue should be documented in detail and should be directed to the appropriate people (ie: VW USA/Canada) so that it can be further investigated. There is a specific phone number in the owners manual which deals with these types of situations (don't have it on me, but start with 1-800-822-8987)Originally posted by onceover View PostWarranty should have nothing to do with such a severe defect that risks your life
Rather disappointed with SCFC's lame response.

Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
Manfred's Industrial Repairs. I know we've used them through work for smaller jobs and had good results.
I'd say anyone that can tig could do this job no problem, personally I'd have a new piece of metal bent to shape and welded on top but I'm no welder. I'd think anyone capable of tig welding exhaust systems would be more than capable of handling this repair.

Warranty should have nothing to do with such a severe defect that risks your life

Sorry, I don't know any welders in that area but if it was me, I would be replacing not welding.

Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
took the car to SCFC and was told that VW would not do anything as the car is out of warranty.Originally posted by toplessvw View PostTake that strait to the dealer, that is a defect in the seat it should not matter what you weigh a seat that breaks in this manor is a severe safety issue. I have one more route I will try , but does anyone know any good welders or welding shops that would be close to macleod and 50th?Last edited by asp gti; 08-13-2012, 02:45 PM.

Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
Since that was a US R32 the seat breaking makes sense...

Re: R32 seat, WTF!!!!
That looks like quite the safety hazard... Imagine that happening if you got into an accident. Law suit anyone?
