Re: upgrade ideas?
tint is the last thing I did to my car. after numerous upgrades. you won't be happy with the auto if you drive one with a stick. trust me. also throw term autotragic stands. eventually it WILL fail.

Re: upgrade ideas?
A few things:
- Europlates are ok but only if they have some sort of significant meaning. If they are just a random word or numbers etc then they make the car look tacky IMO
- Tinting your windows is good for keeping cars cooler during the summers, but is more effective in the states like Arizona, not particularly effective in Canada
- New head unit is a good idea, find something that fits the color theme of the car and doesn't stand out too much
- I had an automatic transmission on my old car and it held up fine boosting to 25psi as a daily driver. On the other hand Tim's transmission had shifting problems. As long as the car shifts really well between 2-3 and 3-4 then i wouldn't hesitate to buy it, if the car is overreving and having a hesitation shifting between 2-3 or 3-4 then the valve body is getting gummed up and will need to either be totally cleaned or replaced and solenoids soon very shortly afterwards.
- If you want a good few first upgrades for winter i would suggest winter tires, a unitronic 1+ chip and a 3" raceland downpipe that you can mate to your stock rest of your exhaust. Those few upgrades will keep your car on the road and in commission for the winter months and will keep you excited to drive it. A 1+ chip combined with a 3" downpipe will give your turbo great spooling capabilities, high torque and a good powerband until you get up to higher rpms where the turbo runs out of breath. The auto transmission is actually good for turbo cars because it keeps the car always in boost instead of going in/out of boost between shifts.

Re: upgrade ideas?
really all you need to do on a mk4 is lower it and it looks 1000 times better instantly.
A good drop with some nice wheels and you are set. I personally like the no tint fishbowl even though i have tint on my black mk4 R
also a few little things can make it look cleaner than stock, ie stubby antenna, diff color side markers
also +1 on the manual over auto any day. the 1.8t is such a great, tourqey engine and you will get way more out of it in manual than auto. also a simple chip is all you need to add 50+ lbft/tq and 30+ hp and it will only be a few hundred bucks

Re: upgrade ideas?
Thanks guys for the input, I already had a few ideas before I joined here, like euro plate a new deck tint, pretty much just winter stuff I can do, and then when summer rolls around coils spacers etc.. As for the wheels they come with some pretty sick ass wheels as it is

Re: upgrade ideas?
Tint is personal preference and it really all depends on what the whole car will look like in general. I had a black MK3 golf that had 5% tint all around. But I also had smoked headlights and tinted fogs/sidemarkers to match it all. Had that kind of "murdered out" look to it. With my .:R, I kept everything clean and decided fishbowl. Headlights are chrome/silver look, sidemarkers are clear, and it matches the car much nicer. Plus my personal believe is when you have a nice interior, tint will take away from that.
As for Auto vs Manual, if you're not planning to mod the engine then its just preference. Personally I would never buy a car for myself that didnt have 3 pedals.

Re: upgrade ideas?
Nearing 10 years I've done half tint, all windows tinted, and in the end it went to zero...fishbowl style.Originally posted by danaldson View Posttint can look good, i have it, lots of other people have it. i now regret it though; not because of tickets or anything like that. its just i think that the money could be used for something better like suspension, or nicer wheels.

Re: upgrade ideas?
Fishbowl or tint is which ever you prefer...I personally like tint, but Patryk's one of many guys that prefers the fishbowl...I think it depends on the color of the car too.

Re: upgrade ideas?
I also agree with lowering and then wheels. The first car I bought myself was a manual, and I had only driven one once before for about 10 minutes. I got used to it in less than a day and then wasn't even having to think about what I was doing within the first week. Find one with a stick and just drive it... You'll be used to it in no time and won't regret it!
