Anyone shed some light on this, if I take my new GTI in for simple service, are they going to deactivate the features in which I paid more money for?

That is correct unless you can ask them otherwise. But being a safety recall you are prob SOL. But you can activate it again easily

      Re: VWOC Recall

So because these parts of a safety system don't have a firmware that allows a dealership to put them in "test mode" the Government wants to deactivate it? That is kinda crazy...

2 guys jump out of an airplane..
guy 1: "Hey why is my parachute not deploying?"
guy 2: "Sorry, had to deactivate it since the handle is yellow, not red. Standards, you know."
guy 1: "But I'm going to crash without a parachute!"
guy 2: "Yeah but your crash will meet standards!"

that's really not cool considering these features came at an extra price. not that I had a choice as it was the only blue GTI there but still. dealers should kick back some cash if this is the case or the Gov't should at least.

That applies to unsold vehicles... TBD for your car. Not sure how they’d force anyone to go in for the recall anyway.

He's concerned they would just do it when it was in for say, an oil change.

True... years ago there was a recall for the front control arms in the MK1 TT - most people participated but not everyone. A mechanic would need your permission to make a change to your car but it is possible an overzealous manager or mechanic might just automatically “fix” things up for you. I’ve always been asked first but it’s probably worth having that discussion beforehand with whoever is servicing the car.

Gottcha - wish I could recommend a good indy-shop but I’m not familiar enough with the options up there.

Eurasia will be able to sort out your UrS.

As for the TSB, tell them you don't authorize any changes and you should be fine.
