Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Just need the aluminum one since the ears on top of the tranny will be use for custom to frame rail mount, just like the one on VWMotorsport kitcar shell. I got the stuff ready but without the rear mount, I have to keep the tranny on the jack. I kind of guessed the height and it looks good but still prefer to check that using rear mount before I start welding stuff.
For the front mount I used the early mkII mount that I got filled up with urethane, did the same to the rear mount and got few spears from p&p and got them all filed. So far so good did not have to replace any. Stock new one lasted 2 rallies, even VWMS does not last.
Still need to get the longer bolts, for now I just didn’t install the starter.
What did you pay for new piece and the bolts?

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Are you looking for the bracket or the part number? I've got part numbers for both the parts you need as I had to get them for my 02J. Did you figure out what you're doing with the front mount? The front mount from a MKIII TDI is the best from what I hear, but I made my 020 mount work. I just got some longer bolts from an Audi's starter (I've got part numbers for that too if you need).
As for the clutch, are you going to use the pedal cluster for the Passat/Corrado or are you custom mounting the MKIV clutch pedal/master/slave setup?
Nice looking 1.8T!!!!

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Working mostly inside the car. Got the seat mount done, mkIV clutch pedal location figured out, steering column lowered - still need to extended it and remove the lock. Roll cage tide to the body in few more places. Some more stitch welding inside.
I’m stuck with the motor until I find the bracket for the tranny. Poly bushings and materials are all here to do copy of the VWMS but cant get to it until I make sure everything seats where it spouse to be. If anybody has one for sale or is willing to lend me one for day or two pleas pm me.

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
My place had double garage and some 15 years ago previous owner decided to add third right to it, the floor in that bay is some kind of asphalt, very rough and absorbs anything that spills. I was thinking of cleaning it and painting to seal it but never have the time - or rather empty space.Originally posted by Vulcan View PostIt's interesting to follow your progress. That’s unusualOriginally posted by bart View Postjust spotted the corolla on 18st, didn't see it drifting around corners...
So few thing got done today.
First, the subframe got reinforced, welded-up and installed.
Next, the long awaited thing happened - the engine and 02J went in.

PS. I need brackets for the mount for the 02A tranny.Last edited by PrezeS_PL; 01-04-2007, 02:23 AM.

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Castrol super clean is about the strongest cleaner you can buy, they once ran an add on how you can make a bunch of other degreasers on the market by delouting their product by a certain percentage. I use it on everything but you have to be careful of the fumes as they are strong!

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Had to work on the Van all day, but still managed to strip the engine of some parts, spray it with "Super Clean" and rinse it. It was sitting for over 18 months in the dusty part of the shop. Now it’s almost ready to go in.

some of the stuff wil go back but not too much

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
Well a supercharger conversion might give you less lag and not cost THAT much but it would still be costly. If you switched your engine management to 034efi I think it does antilag and other things, its not 7k but $2500 is still a chunk of money. Goodluck in your rally season and I am curious to see how a 1.8T fares. I think my dream VW this year is a Mk2 GTI with a 1.8T, if only I won the lottery.

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
The short final drive should help the gearing a lot. Antilag - I dont know if it posible with MSnS and no 7k MoTec here - thats more then the whole car and everything on it.
There are two nicely build VW N/A rally motors in canada, one was $20k other who knows, they sporting $10k trannys, $15k suspension setups and chew up two grand worth of tires every weekend. Unless someone wants to sponsor me I'm not going there. For fun factor and allaround race setup (rally, solo, and posibly hillclimb) the 1.8T is decent motor - plus it only cost me ... so that was deciding factor. If I had to do it all over again I would prabobly choose RWD - what of fun ride.
If only money wasn't a problem
Jared running the TT seem to be happy, at least when he stay on the road. Oil pan give them some trouble but they have jack the car up since.

Re: Rebuild, swap progress GTi
I was not thinking you should use anything bigger, but the K03sport is even a bit laggy for rally (as you say, lag is a major concern). I don't know if the k03 will last if you use anti-lag haha. On the road if there arent any straight stretches just lots of tight curves (like auto-x) I think the 1.8T stock could be a little frustrating too, waiting for the turbo.
I guess I am surprised you would not use a N/A motor. Some people have done supercharger conversions on 1.8T's, for Rally you might want to look at that idea if you have money to spend. There was a 20v corrado in eurotuner this year I think that was supercharged and made over 200whp. Also I heard bahnbrenner has done a few cars. I think a few people on the vortex have built NA motors out of 20v's or at least 20v heads that compare with the stock 1.8T for HP but it would be a lot of work. I think a lot of the time they use a 2.0 bottom and a 1.8T top and people have made 150+ hp for sure with no lag.Last edited by Kor; 01-01-2007, 03:44 AM.
