What an unproductive evening. Made a plate to cover the hole after old shifter assembly. Fish the cables thru the firewall. Installed the down pipe - I thought there could be some issue with steering rack, but no, fits like a glove. Cut the backing plate for clutch pedal but before had the chance to weld it in place, I killed the grinder.

the air flow isn't dimished at all? Liquid being pumped through a rad would have a different flow rate than air being sucked through..? I guess i don't really know how a IC's contruction differs from that of a radiator.

wait, i don't know wtf im talking about

Really? You know this is Saab IC (Blackstone)?
How you were abele to fit that monsters thing with a/c and rad.
I like how it seats up high, so even if I extend my racing line (read get in trouble) into ditch I will not rip it off. In addition, it was cheap so I got a spare one just in case.

    Time for the update

Fix my previous attempt at stich weldnig. Made new seat mounts that hopefully will double as structural part between doorsill and tunnel. Still have to do co-driver side.
By extending the steering column, I was able to move the seat much further back. That will improve the weight distribution. Battery is going to the back too.
Installed the intercooler. Started on fabricating tranny mount.

Stock location on the back – pretty tight on that side, with timing and serpentine belt, strut tower, fuel lines,

Had to weld some stuff on the back of the car so I pulled the tank and fuel pump out before it hurts someone There was a bucket of dirt trapped between the tank and floor pan.
This probably had something to do with it.

Are you using the stock MKII rear mount? The reason I ask is that the side mount rear tab on the MKIV engines is notorious for shearing away under stress, making the engine unusable unless you're an industrious MKI, MKII, or MKIII owner, who still has access to the cast holes in the back of the block.

But I'm sure you already thought about that.

Something about a rally car makes me want to build one someday.

The 02A console part number is 357 199 353 A (WorldImpex part number 53911). That's the part that goes from the diff and meets up with the bracket on the tranny mount.

I bought mine from World Impex and it took about 10 days to show up, along with a $40 brokerage fee from UPS. You can probably get it from the dealer within two days for less than Impex+shipping+border rape.

Here's a link to a guy doing a straight up 02J swap with cable shift, not hydro. It has some other part numbers if you're interested....

Thanks man I get that ordered, I actually prefer the hex head over the alan. What is the P/N on that 02A bracket, how much and how long did you have to wait for it?

Frame rail mount should fix few issues
    - take the tranny and some of the engine load of the sub frame
    - Additional rigidity - it is solid right now with those urethane-filled mounts, before with stock mounts the motor tilted so much in the corners that it was hard to shift - rod shift - not an issue with cable shift.
    - extend the life of the other mounts by taking some of the abuse

VW had change to rail mounts for mkIV

This is mk3 kitcar ex-works, look at the sub frame both of the mounts are gone, some kind of stabilizer with spherical bearing in the middle, now look closely at the frame rail just above the wheel, looks familiar? mkI , there is another one across, on timing belt side,

BTW, I assume you're putting the frame mount on there for additional rigidity?

I think the bolts were like $6.00 each from 5th ave. Part number....
N 104 713 01. They are an M10 X 160mm, so if you can get bolts from a supplier, that's what you need to get. The ones I got had a hex head, not an allen head...Here's a pic. The Audi S8/Phaeton ones are in the middle. The top one is the stock 020. The bottom ones were some M10x150's that I got from Triad that were just too short.
