Usually during the winter months its hard finding a decent car. Wait till Spring/Summer and im sure you will find what you are looking for.

My dad went into the dealership today to finalize the deal and got some bad news.

After the car had been sitting for several months with no ones interest, 1 hour after we left someone walked in and bought it. Good news is it's subject to financing so maybe things will play out in my favour.

I haven't been able to find a decent Dub for that price with those kilometeres and that condition for months anywhere.

Well congrats, if you love the car its a good purchase. Condition is 9/10ths of any purchase.

Thanks everyone for the criticism, quite helpful.

I went with the old man to look at it closer and quite nice! Very clean -- absolutely perfect almost. Needs new tires but we're getting that thrown into the final price if it goes through.

Went for a drive, drove excellent! It seemed pretty quick for the 2.0L, but I'm only 17, I don't need a really fast car -- this will definitely do, and something I can definitely find pride in taking care of and doing small mods (nothing outrageous while in school).

Driving it today I definitely had a lot of fun, even though driving this Dub was a lot different than any other cars I've driven before.

The price came down from $14-9 to $12-9, and I think we're looking at paying roughly $12-5 with GST. We tried to sway $10,000 off that bat and I thought the guy was going to kill himself. We threw $11,000 and still no dice so around $12,000 is what it could be, maybe even $11-8 + GST, which will be $200 less than $12,720 with GST.

It's an '02 GL, 58,864 km's, lots of fun to drive and immaculate condition. We had it checked out by a really tough automotive service and it passed with flying colors, except for the tires I guess which are being swapped.

I'll keep you all updated but it looks like the deal may be going down next week.

For a first car, wow, I'm super pleased if this finds it's way to my garage.

    Thanks!

i would pay $2k more and buy a city golf brand new... same engine and everything, and from that you can add whatever options you want.

yea you can get b5 a4s for low teens now but be warned of timing belts, cv boots, and control arms.. those all cost an arm/leg to be fixed.. if you can afford the maintenance go for it..

also its hard to find manual audis around here.. alot are stupid tiptronic.. and since you going with no warranty (more than likely) just search on audiworld classifieds and ebay and try to buy a used one there.. you can get stage 3 S4s for like 18-25kUS and i'm sure stage 3 A4s (although i haven't seen any lately) or just buy marks haha

    ps.. audi 4 life

The 2L is really slow. Although its reliable, its never going to feel very peppy and that will hurt the resale a bit too, since a lot of cars out now are quick.

As said, they are still selling the 2L Mk4 Golf as the Citigolf, so your resale on an original Mk4 golf will also suck.

If you have 12 or 13 grand, maybe at least try to get a 1.8T or VR6 Golf or GTI or even a Beetle (unless you hate em).

I did a quick search for Audis priced 13-15K (you could bargain down to 13K).

Several people are selling A4's and A6's. These are nice cars! You can even afford Quattro on them.

Well this is going to be my first vehichle.
    I am only 17.

I think what would keep me happy besides basic exterior features would be looking into cold air and a decent exhaust system and maybe a chip.
This is when I can scrounge money together while paying insurance / gas while saving for my vaca.

    All within time though!

My budget is going to be about $13,000 and this seemed to be quite a deal, especially in the shape it's in and only 59,000 km's.
    It's selling for $12-9.

I'm still keeping the window open.

I'd look at one for a 2nd car, but only if you don't plan to mod it, and it's less than 9K. There are GLS ones for 10-12 loaded. Then city for 17-19.

i think this issue was resolved by 2002, but check to see if that 2L engine has the oil consumption problem.

if you're looking for an engine to mod, don't go with the 2.0. i'd say get a TDI if you want something bulletproof and that responds well to mods. if you want fun, 1.8T or vr. there were some 4 door GLS trims that came with the 1.8T, but all of the vr's are only available in the GTI trim.

Agreed, I can't wait to see yours, BUT, you'd probably fall into the "heavily modified" category.

When a lot of people think "mods" they think that an intake and exhaust will be enough to keep them happy.
