Re: Diesel vs. Gas
Yes, torque gets you started and HP keeps you going.Originally posted by turbomeyers View PostThe key point here is hp gets you a faster Et and wins a race . . I agree a tdi has mundo low end torque and torque is needed to get a vehicle started but on a hill or on a flat road we are all ready moving and out of that ever so important area torque is king ,hp takes over at that point my friend ....
I find going from 0-60km/h is my most common acceleration, and 0-60km/h in a TDI "feels" satisfying, that initial "my butt is sliding backwards" feeling is what gives me a grin when I drive. I have no dreams of my TDI racing anything, it's just good old city fun driving.

Re: Diesel vs. Gas
A hill may not be a deciding factor to you, but to me it is. Those dyno's you showed with the tdi's having such a small usable amount of torque of only 2500rpms are just bad tunes and not enough fueling. I have lots of power all the way to 5500 RPM, all I had to do was install a lift pump to keep my power up in the higher RPMS. I know people have had success with Unitronics and UPSolute and other local tuners, but for TDI's, I'm talking on behalf of most people with a modded TDI here on the club will say that Mark Malone has got some of the best tunes available for TDI's. He's also got tunes for gassers as well, but I can't vouch for those as I have never used one. I go to the mountains a lot and generally have a full car most of the time. That extra weight makes a huge difference as to how much more your car weighs now with the added extra weight. Yes HP is the property of Torque and with more Torque you get more hp. Your first video is of a lightly modified tdi, the second is two gassers. Drags and dyno's hold no water for me. Maybe they do for you and that's what matters to you, but not me. Sure they give you some data on the power you have, but does it include incline, elevation or extra vehicular weight? If they do, which I'm not sure of then I will be more optimistic of the values of dyno's.Originally posted by turbomeyers View PostGear ratios are a big factor yes. But you still need all the factors that make for performance in an engine..Tq and HP. and then you need to find the area under the line for both and i assure you regardless of gearing the one with the most in both types cars in question here will be the victor. Please someone else explain to DJ a hill is not a deciding factor in power delivery.
In the end of the day, people on here said they liked the feeling of being thrown back in your seat. I agree and also enjoy that feeling in every gear and especially up a hill. The picture below is without a lift pump installed, which would even out the line a little more.

I love my frankenturbo 1.8t but darn, i come up to a hill and I just hate my life. I tried to pull on my buddies alh but just couldn't do it. I really wish I bought a diesel for all the hill climbing here. (said no 1.8t owner ever)

Re: Diesel vs. Gas
I don't care if your climbing mt everest, diesels aren't fast...Originally posted by dJ View PostRight....Obviously you haven't climbed a hill against a car modified similar to mine because all you would be doing is sucking smoke through your vents.
I have the same 17/22 on my alh and my friends 1.8t will beat my car no problem whether it's up a hill, down a hill or on flat ground. He also has less money into performance stuff than I do. Diesel stuff unfortunately is not cheap. That being said, I love my car. You can't really think your car will beat a 300hp/300tq 1.8t. Their not Honda vtec engines. Re: Diesel vs. Gas
DJ I'm gunna troll hard here. Your saying the hand drawn dyno you posted where your ,let me get this straight, Stage 7? Alh is revving to 6000 rpm.?
And making 250 whp but yet only 330 tq. I suspect this might be inaccurate. Since you claim 500 wtq out of such an amazing alh only posts ago.I mean my lowly 200 whp alh musters up 400 Wtq, so am I doing something wrong by not calling it a stage 12 ? Maybe my dyno was on an incline to make more of the 1.8t destroying magic tqs

C'mon you can't knock a guy for posting a dyno chart directly from Malone Tunings site!Originally posted by turbomeyers View PostDJ I'm gunna troll hard here. Your saying the hand drawn dyno you posted where your ,let me get this straight, Stage 7? Alh is revving to 6000 rpm.?
