Re: Calgary February 2013 Meeting Feb7/13
PM me if you have good suggestions but until then we're keeping our meets at moxies.. its a bit south but its still an easy to get to location to get and has a great parking area for everyone especially in the summer months when we get 60+ people showing up
thanks all end of discussion for now
PS buffalo wild wings is amazing.. been to a few in ontario.. but i think its an 18+ place and i agree with blair about having people drink-drive.
Good spot for a mid monther i do believe thoLast edited by R_Ethug; 02-11-2013, 08:50 PM.

It's just hard for me to go to any restaurant that doesn't take their food seriously. Moxie's is buy and fry, and what I've seen in them has definitely turned me away from ever going back. I can't comment on how Earls was 6 years ago, I've been with the company for about a week and a half now
, but from what I've seen so far it gets top marks. I've met almost every one of the Chef's and most of Sous Chef's from Calgary, and a few from Edmonton and Vancouver as well, and have a hard time believing they allow much compromise in their buildings, particularly Jason Gillies at Tin Palace downtown, and Landin Sharkey at Bankers Hall, those two are the most skilled Chef's I've met or worked with, even better than Darrell Achen, but really all of them at Earls are top notch from what I've seen. Head Chef at 130th is a french guy named Alexandre Lazaire and he gets top marks from me as well. I'm getting off point a bit here I guess, all I'm trying to say is everyone here seems to take their job very seriously.
As for being 'that guy', think of it like a Audi salesman recommending someone goes and buys a Kia. I simply can't stay quiet about people going to what I think are shitty establishments.
And again, all that said, I know it's a meet and not a dinner date, so location counts more than venue. I'm just lending my professional opinion. Good call on moving on from BP's in the past, don't even get me started on that one. Wherever the meets take place, it's not like I'd be sitting their bitching about the place the whole time, I'd be enjoying my time with some good people.Last edited by btimbit; 02-11-2013, 05:13 PM.

I totally forgot about the age... I still think Earl's would be good because hey, we all drive cars at least? haha.

Re: Calgary February 2013 Meeting Feb7/13
Well I always dislike when this discussion comes around as it seems to do every so often, pleasing everyone is an impossibility but the meet location is about many factors.
-Location is a concern as we want it to be easy for everyone to get too, and central is nice but not always possible, and considering it is a car club funny how many people complain about driving to a meet.
-Parking, this is probably one of the most important, as we usually hang out before and after the meets around the cars so if they are scattered about it takes away from the whole experience.
-Food & Service, well this is a tough one as we have to rely on the place to be able to serve 20-50 people that randomly arrive and have a variety of tastes and wallets to appease. Moxies has been very good to us in this area, over the years we have been going there I think there have been only a few issues and far less than we had at BPs, that is for sure.
I understand the desire for change but a big part about the monthly meet is consistency, a lot of people do not pay attention to these threads they just arrive on the first Thursday at Moxies as that is where we go, so changing this is a very big deal IMO. I am also always concerned about pubs/bars as we have from time to time had underage members and discriminating against them is not something I like, plus a car meet in a drinking establishment is a bit sketchy. The biggest issue is that as we grow this becomes a harder and harder challenge as a lot of places will not be able to consistently handle such large groups and something just in a parking lot with coffee/snacks might have to become the reality.
Obviously I am not in any position to make these choices but they have to be for the benefit of the club and not just one or two people. Personally I have no problem with Earls (I worked there for many years myself and even opened the Willow Park location across from our Moxies) but I am not sure they would be as accommodating, the seating arrangement in Moxies is actually very nice having us separated from the rest of the restaurant. With spring/summer hopefully coming up sooner than later I think we should just try for more meets to offer everyone a variety, like the ice cream and cars and coffee meets we have been experimenting with.
Anyway those are my thoughts on this subject, but glad to see the meet was one of the best ever!! Hopefully I will make a 2013 meet at some point!!Last edited by Canadian Turbo; 02-11-2013, 07:38 AM.

I take my job fairly seriously, so a place like Moxies just has no appeal to me on a professional level. But on that note I know it's a meet, not a dinner date, so location counts more than venue.
But as far as Moxies goes, pictures speak louder than words so; (For what it's worth, this isn't the southport location)

What about jack astors right off southland drive in the plaza? Or there's Buffalo Wild Wings just north of there.
