It does have to be documented, where the replacement parts came from, pictures, etc. I have put a few cars back on the road in my day. The better the documentation is of the repairs, the easier the inspection facility is on nit picking things. That is what I have experienced anyways.

Awe man, Sorry to see this. It was coming together very nicely. Keep us informed as to what insurance does with the car, If they do write it off, Buy it back and grab another jetta to cut the quater panel from, get a reputable shop to weld in the section needed ensuring that it is straight via a frame rack. And do the write off inspection, voila, It will be branded a rebuilt status car, but it sounds like youre keeping this car for the long haul so it won't be an issue.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm thinking about doing if they write it off. I read about that the rebuilt process have to be documented? Does it? Or can I just fix it and inspect it?

A salvage vehicle, commonly referred as written-off by people outside the automotive industry, is a motor vehicle that can be rebuilt. I'll fix it if it's worth fixing to me, reshelling I'm not interested unless they deem the car non repairable

That'll definitely get wrote off. Shitty thing is you'll have to ship it back to Calgary when you buy it back. Wouldn't be worth fixing though

Waiting for insurance to contact me tomorrow, they may just make the other insurance company pay to fix it. If they don't, no big deal I'll fix it. I just don't want to buy another jetta, I'll get the car all straightened and repainted here in vancouver then take it back to calgary for inspection. Salvage title or not, frame strong or not, i don't care, i just want to keep this car on the road.

I dont think thats how it works. If its deemed unroadworthy (such as a messed up frame), and a salvage title, it wont be road able to be on the road.. Unless you want to make it a track car?

Nope and I just spent 3 hours installing a new auto tech rsb five minutes before the accident, at least the dash cam caught everything
