got the walk through door up today. can finally lock up and not drag all the tools back in the house every evening.

Was putting on the brick mold around the door and a nail hit a knot in the door frame and blew out a big chunk of wood out of the nice frame... shiz. Should be able to patch and sand, but bummer!

If I can get motivated, I'll do the electrical trench tomorrow

Some panels might not have enough room in the house for 2 extra breakers as you will likely run 220 out to the garage. Best to put a sub panel in the garage, they are cheap.

Just something to think about, thats all.
    I'll keep that in mind!

Started a bit of siding last night. Have to motivate myself to dig the trench for electrical. Might try to do the digging this weekend.

cool, thanks for info. I suppose an extra plug is no biggie either way. Easier now than later.

I got my gateway to control my z-wave light switches today.

    http://www.aartech.ca/wdha-12r-wayne...s-gateway.html

It accepts the signal from the extra buttons on my garage door opener, and sends it to the light switches.

I looked in the code and there are no rules stating that outdoor receptacles are required on the garage. It is just what is normally done. If you don't need it don't worry about putting it in.

You will also want to run some sort of wire for you garage door opener sensors. One on either side of the big door back to the opener for the door sensors and one from your man door to the opener for the button.( I usually use Cat 5 cause its so cheap) This can be taken care of all with one 15 amp circut it you like (#14 awg). I personally would run a sub panel with at least a 30 amp service from your house. (#10 awg). That way you could run way more receptacles and lights if you decide to in the future. (No need for extension cords).

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I may still have danno on here swing by and do a bit too, since he offered his services somewhere back near page 1. I'm running short on time...
At any rate, I gotta get the siding on and the damn trench dug first!

I have a motion sensor light on the house side high up towards the peak of the roof. it comes in handy all the time but the freaken bunnies keep turning it on! When I drop by I can give you some ideas on electrical layout.

I will put lights on the alley side.

Does anyone know what is required for electrical in a garage? I know I need 1 plug per stall, but not sure about the rest. I hope to put 2 carriage lights on the alley side, a couple florescent light fixtures inside, along with probably about 4 duplex plugs. And I guess a light by the walk through door. Is a light by the door code?

I got one more side of soffit and fascia on tonight. Also got my electrical permit.

The price you are currently sitting at is dirt cheap. Most garages that size from a builder will be around $20k. PS you could have borrowed my tin snips, circular saw, air stapler and wood chisels... but not my ear plugs
Are you going to put a light on the ally side of the garage?(or house side for that matter) I can't remember it it was code that you needed them. I know one would be handy for me at times so it might be an idea to add one.
